About
Us
This site has been put together by a group of people from Loughborough
College and Loughborough University.
We come from different backgrounds and services:
- The
Student Union
- The
Counselling services
- The
Chaplaincy
- Computer
Support Services
- Mental
Health Support and Information
We
have been funded by Health Promotion in Leicestershire Health
Authority to create a mental health web-site which gives information
to any student in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
- We
know that being a student can be very stressful for many different
reasons. We feel that it's important that students have fast and
confidential access to information and support when they are worried
or stressed about things.
- It
is difficult going to see someone who you don't know, when you
are feeling low, or stressed. Information on this site may be
a first point of contact, and it may help you to sort out what
it is that is troubling you.
- We
know from research that students often turn to their friends first
when they are in difficulties. It can be hard supporting a friend
who is low, or worried or distressed. If you are helping a friend,
and are not always sure about what to do for the best , the information
on this site will be another source of support for you.
What
we are hoping we do
- We
have tried to give you information in plain and clear language.
- If
you want to know more about a particular topic, you can use the
drop down menu on the left - this will give you brief information,
together with some web-links which will give further help.
- On
the Home page there is a map - this will
give you the details of the support and the help which is available
in your own college or university.
Because
it is sometimes hard to understand exactly what you might be worried
about or need help about, there is a section called 'I
feel'. Click on this and it may direct you to the information
you want and need.
There
are also Case Studies. These could be
useful if you have a friend who needs help, but you are not sure
what the real difficulties are, or where s/he should go. Case studies
may also help you to know that you are not on your own.
What
we are not doing
- We
are not giving you detailed medical information, or giving you
a diagnosis. We hope that the site may mean that you understand
more about the kind of help you or a friend might need.
- We
are not suggesting that you use this web-site instead of making
contact with people who can help you. We often suggest that talking
to someone who you feel you can trust, will be the first and the
best thing you can do.
- We
cannot be responsible for what you decide to do after you have
found information from the site or from the links we have suggested.
If
you are in any doubt, or if you or a friend are in distress or pain,
you can seek further advice. Contact

Please
help us to help you
This
site is still being written and developed. We would like feedback
from you about
- whether
you can understand the information,
- whether
it is helpful,
- whether
it is easy to get to
- whether
there are any other topics which you think we should have included
Please
also send us your comments about the content and the design.
